JOLENE

Jolene wants to be where the action is! Although this exceptionally friendly, happy, energetic and affectionate little beagle is a young adult, she has a puppy's personality and curiosity. We're not kidding when we say she's affectionate. She's the ultimate Velcro-dog, that is, she wants to be with her humans every minute of every day.

Jolene would do well in a home with another dog who can siphon off some of her energy. Jolene is a typical beagle. That means she gets along with other dogs, and she is very good with children. However, like many beagles, she is eager to explore the outside world, so your house needs to be organized to foil the "beagle bolt" (the sudden run for the outside when a door is opened). A fenced yard is essential. (For those unfamiliar with beagles, they can never be let off the leash except in a fully fenced area.) Also, she has the typical loud beagle "bay," so a house where noise is a problem is not suitable.

Jolene is fully housetrained and crate-trained, but will need obedience classes, preferably positive reinforcement training ("clicker-training"). Her eagerness to please should make her a standout in her obedience class.
